Brown Girl Birthing
Chauntá Love is the founder of Brown Girl Birthing. She is a Birth Doula, Lactation Specialist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Carseat Technician. Chauntá has a Bachelors degree in Psychology with a specialization in child development and a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Chauntá has been providing birth support to family and friends since 2013 and decided to take the next step to become a birth doula, in 2019, when she realized the importance of doulas. She recognized that she could make a change and decided to pursue a career as a doula. Chauntá has a passion for empowering women about the strength of their mind and body through education on birth, mental health, and breastfeeding.

How Brown Girl Birthing began
Brown Girl Birthing was created because of the unique challenges black women face in our medical system. According to the CDC black women are about 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy- related complications than women of other races, majority of which are preventable. In addition, infant mortality (death of a baby before age 1) is two time higher than babies of other races. Brown Girl Birthing’s mission is to help reduce those rates through the education, support, and empowerment of women about birth practices, prenatal care, breastfeeding, and infant safety. While we have an emphasis on women of color, we are passionate about empowered birth for all women, regardless of race.
